The unintended expat blogger behind Prairie Grove Drift

Hi there, I am Emma
I work as a project manager. I'm a parent. I'm an expat living in Berlin, Germany.
A few years back, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a whole new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Germany wasn't part of the long-range plan. Like many international moves, it began as a job opportunity and quickly evolved into something much bigger.
The first months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and shifted expectations. Everyday tasks felt more tangled than they should.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But slowly, routines formed. We discovered places that worked for us, met other families, and started building something that felt stable.
Why I Built Prairie Grove Drift
Most information online was either corporate-level relocation advice or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site exists to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Germany.
What This Site Does (And Does Not)
This site is:
- Practical insights from living in Germany
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site isn't:
- A resource from a tourism authority
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- A generic travel blog
Future Outlook
Our stay in Germany continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I will keep recording what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere in Germany, please feel free to get in touch.
Best regards,
Emma
